Die französische Band arbeitet seit 2009 der swingenden Tradition von Serge Gainsbourg und dem yé-yé sound der 60er Jahre. Die Limiñanas verbinden sonnige Psychedelia mit Vintage- Pop. Die Band aus Perpignan, France, besteht aus der Drummerin und manchmal-Sägerin Marie Limiñana und dem Bassisten, Organist und Hans-Dampf-in-allen Gassen Lionel Limiñana. Gastsängerinnen sind Stars wie MU. Mit ihrer Kombi aus angezerrten Orgeln, halb gesprochenen, halb gesungenen Vocals und der coolen Retro-Produktion zelebriert die Band die Sexyness des 60ies-French-Sounds. Als spielten Lou Reed und Serge Gainsbourg in einer Band.



But the most notable guest features on the duo's favouriteMalamore track, the hypnotic, dreamy Garden Of Love: on bass and chorus vocals is none other than the legendary Peter Hook. We are huge fans of Joy Division and New Order, and Peter completely transformed the song, Marie and Lionel say. We are really proud of the song, and that he agreed to spare us a little bit of his time.

There are other legends on Malamore, such as The Kingmen's garage classic Louie Louie (one of Lionel's all-time favourite singles) named in the hypnotic The Dead Are Walking and actors Robert Mitchum and Robert Duvall referenced in the pulsing title track: Our story needed two tough characters who were ready to fight, to take revenge on an flouted honour. Think of Duvall in The Godfather or Apocalypse Now, and Mitchum's psycho from Cape Fear or Night Of The Hunter!

Shifting from dramatic scene to scene, Malamore - just like The Limiñanas themselves - is a magnificently moody experience, music for the ears and the eyes, and quite unlike any other record you'll hear in 2016.

Garden Of Love, recorded with Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order) on the Bass. Following the success of their 4th album 'Malamore' released in April this year, French duo The Limiñanas have now trusted London star DJ, producer and friend Andrew Weatherall to remix the flagship single Garden Of Love (feat. Peter Hook). The collaboration has resulted in two unique remixes.

When we released Je Ne Suis Pas Très Drogue in 2009, Andrew played it in his radio show in London. Then Bernie Fabre contacted me because Andrew wanted us to play in his festival De La City A La Cité in Carcassone. That's how we met. When we worked with Peter Hook, the idea of a maxi with one or two remixes made sense. So we did this record with the original edit of Garden Of Love and two remix edits by Andrew Weatherall. - Lionel Limiñana

What was old is new again… The old adage is so tired that nobody takes its proper measure: all people hear is the word old, when the important one is new. Making new things out of old things is an act of alchemy. The proof is in this fifth album - no rest for the wicked of Perpignan - which is blown right open here and there by a few very contemporary guests. After the opener, ‘Ouverture’, with its almost surf-like guitars, comes ‘Le Premier Jour’, where Lionel Limiñana talks about his rock baptism with the punks, the mods, the skinheads and the Lambrettas of his youth in the South of France. What comes just after is the seismic shock of ‘Istanbul is Sleepy’: the Imprimatur of Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre is simply enormous. Then comes Emmanuelles Seigner’s super sexy tornado on the title track, and ‘Dimanche’ follows, with Bertrand Belin. Lionel sees him as a French Nick Cave who writes songs that resemble films.. ‘The Gift’ features Peter Hook who scrapes his bass guitar again here, obviously a song reminiscent of an early period New Order. Finally, the Limiñanas on their own send out an instrumental cavalcade with a furious beat, like a Kraut Morricone, ‘Motorizzati Marie’ followed by ‘Pink Flamingos’, introduced with psych rock pads played backwards forming a vaporous song bathed in acoustic arpeggios. A respite in the album… before the fuzz and the abyssal bass of ‘Trois Bancs’ violently shakes the ghost of Gainsbourg: an electroshock in talk over. And to close the scene, a love message: ‘De La Part Des Copains’, its organ, its tambourine, its quaver and its brass place it in the classic soundtrack category revered by the band. An ideal conclusion for this incredible faultless record. The rock’n’roll epiphany thus continues. It belongs to those who will listen - full blast - to Shadow People and will doubtless feel the urge to plug a guitar into an amp. A valve amp, of course.

Pünktlich zur Tour erscheint diesen Herbst ein echtes Highlight der Band - die erste Doppel LP der Liminanas (natürlich auch auf CD) mit RAREN & und bislang UNVERÖFFENTLICHTEN Songs, Coverversionen (u.a. Echo &The Bunnymen), Outtakes  aus den Jahren 2015 to 2018. 

Praktisch als legitimer Nachfolger der Ende 2014 veröffentlichten I've got trouble in mind : 7+ Rare Tracks 2009/14 LP und genau wie zuvor sind alle Tracks exklusiv und auf keinem anderen Studioalbum zu finden. Auch das Artwork ist spiegelbildlich zur 2014er Release, war es letztes mal noch die psychedelisch grafische Adaption der Frontsängerin Marie, so ist diesmal Lionel und dessen markanter Rauschenbart das schön überzeichnete Main Ingredient des im wahrsten Sinne Fan Taste ischen Klappcovers. Dazu gibt es ein Poster, das beide Versionen kombiniert und die CD als Beilage zur LP.
